A VERY IMPORTANT AND RARE LARGE NORTH NETHERLANDS MAIOLICA POLYCHROME DATED AND INSCRIBED BIBLICAL CHARGER, probably Rotterdam, tin-glazed to the back and to the reverse, depicting Christ washing the feet of the Apostles after a woodcut and an etching by Frans Floris (1519 - 1570) in the Rijksprentenkabinet Amsterdam (inv.no 65649), the concave charger with the kneeled Christ washing the feet of a seated apostle surrounded by twenty two various figures in an Italian-inspired late Renaissance setting with Corinthian columns, a beamed roof, a rectangular laid table under a drapery, the back with a painting depicting a Flemish landscape, the tile-floor chequered, with a recumbent dog and a pair of slippers, inscribed S. Ioannes and CAP. 13 , further with monogram C.A , the border with a yellow band containing continuous scrolls, the back dated 22 Aprilis 1635 , the back further with polychrome rings and hatched panels, on base ring (three chips to the glaze of the back), 1635 54 cm diam.
