A very rare Chinese porcelain tian marked jar and a cover, Chenghua (1465-1487), of baluster form, painted on the body with four fabulous mythical creatures with tusks, trunks and wings, above waves and between finely painted leaf bands, above the foot and below the shoulder, 15.5 cm high A similar doucai vase and cover is illustrated in A Legacy of Chenghua, an exhibition at the Tsui Art Museum, Hong Kong, 1993, no. c109, p. 306/7 and is also illustrated by Regina Krahl in The Emperors Broken China, p.112, pl. 4. 明成化 青花海水飞象图天字罐 Condition Report: vase had been in several pieces and restored with some infill that can be seen under UV cover in half and restored and one small area of infill the cover Cover of the same period as the vase but possibly a marriage Condition Report Disclaimer
