A VERY RARE SOUTH GERMAN SALLET CIRCA 1480 Of fine one-piece construction, with rounded skull formed with a full-length low medial ridge developing into a low flattened comb, incised with plain lines over the borders of the comb, pierced with pairs of lace-holes at the sides and encircled by a band of domed iron lining rivets about the base, studded with further headless rivets over the sight, the latter with flanged lower edge projecting beyond the upper edge, drawn-out to a graceful down-swept pointed tail, pierced with a pair of small holes at the point, and the edge with angular outward turn (patches of light pitting, small areas of surface lamination and two very small early brazed repairs, one in conjunction with an internal patching rivet) 9in (22.8cm) high
