A VICTORIAN GIANT PATINATED-BRASS STRIKING AND REPEATING EIGHT DAY CARRIAGE CLOCK WITH CALENDAR JAMES MCCABE, LONDON, NO. 2609. CIRCA 1850 CASE: with oak carcass, baluster handle and large viewing aperture to the top, fishscale side frets, repeat button to right side, moulded base on bun feet DIAL: 5½ in. wide engraved silvered dial with subsidiary seconds, signed 'James McCabe/Royal Exchange/London/2609', date and day subsidiaries below, blued steel hands MOVEMENT: with twin chain fusees, maintaining power, gilt platform with monometallic balance to under-slung lever escapement, strike/repeat on two giant bells simultaneously via two hammers, strike/silent lever to back plate signed 'James McCabe/LONDON/2609'; winding key, original brass-bound mahogany travel box with articulated sliding front cover and recessed brass handle 13¼ in.
