G. S. MacPhail …… The Sudd, October 1937; pair badges Northern Province; and others, epaulettes, WWII U.S. Army Air Force Corp Pilot Wings etc., Sudan Civil Defence cap badge (qty) The Sudan Defence Force (SDF) was a British Army unit formed in 1925, as its name indicates, to maintain the borders of the Sudan under the British administration. During the Second World War, it also served beyond the Sudan in the East African Campaign and in the Western Desert Campaign. There is a collection of papers and ephemera lodged with the National Archives in particular relating to James Gordon Stewart Macphail and his life in Sudan Durham University Library Archives and special collection has a larger collection papers and ephemera Ref GB-0033-SAD.
