AFTER THE ANTIQUE- A LARGE BRONZE MODEL OF A GAZELLE OR YOUNG DEER CHIURAZZI, NAPLES, LATE 19TH/EARLY 20TH CENTURY After the original excavated at Herculaneum in 1756, antique patina, well modelled, no foundry mark 86.5cm high, 79cm long This model was illustrated in the Chiurazzi catalogue of 1911 and is cast after the Herculaneum figure- now held in the National Archaeological Museum in Naples Founded in Naples in 1870, the Chiurazzi Foundry specialised in the production of accurate copies of Classical and Renaissance sculpture using casts taken from originals in the Vatican Museum, the Capitoline Museum, the Borghese Museum, the Palazzo Pitti, the Uffizi, and national archaeological museums in Florence and Naples. Most famous for their bronzes, the factory also produced reproductions in terracotta and marble Condition Report: Presents well- antiqued surface colour of attractive dark and faint Verdigris moving to richer brown patina on more exposed surfaces such as head, nose and back from handling. Stabilising modern soft pad under right front hoof to ensure stability. Some streaking to legs from moisture/handling- and some colour variance to right legs Please see additional images for visual references to condition which form part of this condition report.
