* ALASDAIR GRAY (SCOTTISH b 1934 - ), 22.6.59, 1.15am, 144 WEST GRAHAM STREET ballpoint pen drawing, signed dated and inscribed 27cm x 32cm Framed and under glass. Label verso: Ewan Mundy Fine Art, inscribed: Carole Gibbons and Douglas Aberco(m)bie 144 West Graham Street. 22nd June 1959. (home of the painter Alan Fletcher who died in Milan in 1958). Note: Artists Carole Gibbons and Douglas Abercrombie studied at the Glasgow School of Art (1953 to 1957 and 1952 to 1956). Alasdair Gray also studied at the GSA from 1952 to 1957 and taught there from 1958 to 1962. Carole Gibbons and Alan Fletcher were close friends and her first exhibition (1958) was shared with Douglas Abercrombie and Alan Fletcher Gray wrote of Alan Fletcher as: the only artist I know who naturally looked like the Bohemian artist of legend. He was the free-est soul I ever met, and impressed me so mightily that a diminished version of him has been a main character in all the novels I ever wrote. He had to be diminished, or he would have stolen attention from my main characters, who were versions of me. Whilst every effort is made to provide accurate and honest condition reports, none of our staff is a professional conservator, restorer or engineer. Any condition report offered should be accepted as an indication of any obvious issues or problems or the lack of them.
