Auf die Einfassungslinie beschnitten. Guter und sauberer Druck des frühen Blattes aus der großen Passionsfolge. "This page of The Large Passion dates from as early as the Apocalypse series and perhaps from c. 1496 because of the close resemblance to St. Jerome Penitent in the Wilderness in contrast to Schongauer's version in which Christ is shown in a prayerful attitude, Dürer opted for an expression of fear" (Bartsch X, 248). - ZUSTAND: Komplett mit dünnem Japan hinterlegt, stellenw. mit kleinen Papierausdünnungen und -rissen, oberer linker Rand mit kl. Einriß, Sprung von der Pflanze unten zu Petrus' Bart deutet sich an, Einfassungslinie tls. nachgezogen. LITERATUR: Bartsch 6. - Meder 115 b-c (von f). Good and clean impression of the early sheet in the great series of Passions. Sheet 3 of the Great Passion. Orig. woodcut. Around 1496/97. Monogrammed in the plate. On laid paper (without watermark). Paper size 29 : 27.5 cm. Trimmed to the border line. Completely backed with thin Japan, in places with small paper thinnings and tears, upper left margin with small tear. The crack from the plant up to St. Peter's beard is already showing through.
