Place: Various places Publisher: Date: c.1870's-1890's Description: Comprises 17 albumen photographs of Egypt by Felix Bonfils, signed and titled in the negatives; 49 albumen photographs of Italy, (40 by Romualdo Alinari 4 by A. Noack & 3 by G. Sommer, titled and credited in negative strips at bottom of images); & 6 silver photographs of France, mostly the Nice Carneval, (3 by J. Giletta & 2 by J. Fabbio?). Images approx. 8¾x11, mounted on both sides of thin cardboards leaves in half morocco & cloth album, all edges gilt. Spectacular views of Egypt by the French photographer Felix Bonfils, based in Beirut, including photographs of the Sphinx; the pyramids of Cairo; Cairo street scenes; interiors and exteriors of mosques, etc. In Italy, a striking depiction of the Leaning Tower of Pisa; the Basilica of St. Peter; interior shots of the Vatican; the Arch of Constantine; the Forum; Naples, with Vesuvius erupting; etc. The photographs of the Nice carnival show the parades, floats, and other activities. Lot Amendments Condition: Album covers scuffed and soiled but solid; marginal darkening to album leaves, minor fading to photographs, else very good. Item number: 155877
