Venice: Aldus, [1501-2]. Volume 2 (of 3), 4to (210 x 150 mm). 294 ff. non. num., original final blank. C.&p. Aldine printer’s device to verso of f.8, three- to six- line initial spaces with guide-letter. Italic type, Latin and Greek text. Later full vellum, gilt title to morocco lettering label, edges speckled blue. Condition : title slightly cropped, possibly bound in from a smaller copy, leaves lightly toned; vellum lightly rubbed, corners bumped. Provenance : Bibliothek Zu Noethnitz, No. 1780 (bookplate); Thomas Ashby Jun. (armorial bookplate), ink inscriptions to endpapers. the first book printed with Aldus' signature printer's mark of dolphin… Aldus adopted the printer’s device of the anchor and dolphin as his printer’s mark in the second volume of the Poetae Christiani Veteres . Adams P-1685; Renouard 24:1. [With:] CIPRIAN MANENTE DA ORVIETO . Historie di Ciprian Manente da Orvieto . Venice: Gabriel Giolito de’ Ferrari, 1561. 2 parts in one volume, 4to (202 x 145 mm). Large woodcut printer’s device to title, numerous opening initials, chapter head and tail pieces. 19th-century calf, spine tooled in gilt in compartments, gilt title to morocco lettering label, gilt turn-ins, edges speckled red. Condition : title lightly browned, some occasional spots; small gouge to back cover, extremities rubbed, corners bumped.
