Property from the Sporting and Travel Library of Arnold "Jake" JohnsonALKEN, HENRYA Group of Seven Titles Related to Hunting Four Hand-Colored Sporting Engravings. London: Thomas Palser, 1817 [Watermarked 1820]. Folio (21 7/8 x 16 in.; 555 x 408 mm). 4 hand colored aquatints by Thomas Sutherland after Henry Alken; some marginal foxing, plate 1 ("Peasant Shooting") with short tear at inner margin, plate 2 ("Refreshing") with minor closed marginal tear, plate 3 ("Cock Shooting") with closed marginal tear repaired with old tape. Half brown calf over green pebble grain morocco, edges ruled in gilt, spine gilt-lettered, top edge gilt, marbled endpapers; rubbing to extremities. Joel Spitz copy. Siltzer 57. Contemporary green straight-grained morocco, bound by "Knights Sc", borders with multiple gilt rules, decorative cornerpieces to central compartment, borders decoratively tooled in blind, large gilt stamp illustrating trophies of hunting, shooting and fishing to center of covers, spine with raised bands in seven compartments, second gilt-lettered, others with alternating gilt stag and central decoration, all edges gilt, marbled endpapers; rebacked preserving original spine, rubbing to extremities, some scuffs and staining to covers.
