Images in very fine condition; one protective tissue lacking. The Royal Order of Ethiopian Hebrews of New York, an Afro-American Jewish group in Harlem, was originally photographed by Alland as a 1941 commission from Life magazine. These portfolio images would appear to have been printed in the 1940s. An extraordinary group of photographs, remarkable for their rich tonality and the evident sympathy of the photographer for his subjects.
