ALLOT, Robert (fl. 1600), editor]. Wits Theater of the little World . [London:] J.R[oberts] for N. L[ing], 1559. Small 8 o (129 x 80 mm). Woodcut device on title (McKerrow 301); errata leaf at end. (Some slight browning, lower corners chipped from worming on quires M-O, a few tiny wormholes to text occasionally touching a letter.) Contemporary limp vellum (a few stains, loose in binding); quarter roan slipcase. Provenance : Thomas York (signature dated 1680 on front flyleaf, and his? marginal symbols) -- Thomas King (signature and 1751 inscription on errata verso) -- Richard Threipland (signature dated 1884) -- purchased at Sotheby's, London, 28 June 1971, lot 121, through Seven Gables Bookshop. FIRST EDITION of this collection of Elizabethan miscellanies, issue with dedication unsigned by Allott, with the final leaf of errata, and printed cancel slip pasted over first three lines of fol. 185. Grolier Langland to Wither 20; Pforzheimer 1094; STC 382.
