Note: An early paper label on the verso reads "This portrait of Anna Henshaw, of Henshaw Place, Leicester, Mass., daughter of the late David Henshaw and Mrs. Mary Sargent Henshaw - and sister to the Hon. David Henshaw - was born in Leicester 24th Feb. 1770 - was painted by Alvan Clark Artist in Boston, Dec. 1841. Expenses for painting - frame, etc. were defrayed by the Hon. David Henshaw of Henshaw Place".There follows an unclear pencil inscription: "This Portrait was bequeathed to Anne B. Eleredge (?), wife of James H.
