Second edition (1st ed. : 1768). The first part gives a geographical and historical presentation, the second the voyage in 1765 and the third contains the important memoirs of the admiral Paoli (1725-1807), giving details on the fight for Independance in which he participated from 1735 on. Illustrated with a folding map of Corsica. The island remained under Genoese control until the Corsican Republic of 1755 and under partial control until its purchase by France in 1768. The same year this work was published in London, which made Paoli (exiled to London in 1769) an emblematic person in Great Britain. Many translations of the work followed. # Biogr. univ.
