An Anglo-Indian carved and stained hardwood, probably padouk sideboard, 'possibly southern India', second quarter 19th century,: the top with egg-and-dart carved outer front and side edges beneath an openwork 'splash back', carved with confronting fanged and scaly sea monsters (makaras) amongst trailing and entwined vines; the inverted breakfront with three drawers, all carved with trailing grapevines in recessed relief; the twin pedestals each with stylised leaf carved cornice above doors with foliate relief carving, to gadrooned plinths, on turned feet; 117cm high overall, the flat top 87cm high, 180cm wide, 63cm deep.*Notes Literature.
