Illustrated with decorated title page with frontispiece portrait by William Wilke. 12¾x9, vellum-backed marbled boards, vellum corners, blue morocco spine label lettered in gilt, slipcase. No. 215 of 250 hand-numbered copies printed for private distribution by John Henry Nash James Wood Coffroth (1829-1872) moved to California at the age of 21, became the owner of an influential newspaper, a lawyer and, later on, a state senator. This biography portrays the tempestuous Gold Rush days in Sonora and Sacramento, and the role he played in the political chaos in California towards the later half of the nineteenth century.
