AN APULIAN RED-FIGURED VOLUTE-KRATER GROUP OF COPENHAGEN 4223, CIRCA 345-325 B.C. The obverse with a nude youth seated on his himation within an Ionic naiskos, holding a strigil in his raised left hand, the right patting the head of a hound whose forelegs are raised to the lap of his master, a shield resting to the right, greaves and a pilos helmet hanging above, a nude youth standing to the left holding an open box and fillet in his left hand, a knobbed staff in his right, a himation draped over his left arm, a draped female standing to the right, bejewelled in beaded chains, holding a wreath in her left hand, a rosette-chain in her right, her hair bound in a kekryphalos ; the neck with a head in profile to the right, wearing a red mitra , emerging from a flower amidst florals, a band of rosettes, a band of dots and a band of wave above; the reverse with a kylix atop a filleted stele, a draped female offering bearer to the left with a bunch of grapes and a cista, a male offering bearer to the right, holding a branch and a fillet, rosettes in the field, a palmette complex on the neck, a band of laurel above; a band of meander and dotted crossed squares below the scenes, tongues on the shoulders, ovolo on the rim, palmettes below the handles, the volutes with molded diademed female heads, in added white on the obverse, the shoulders with molded duck heads framing the handles, details in added yellow, white and red 24¼ in. (61.6 cm.) high
