An Arts & Crafts hammered silver christening bowl and spoon by Omar Ramsden & Alwyn Carr, the bowl 1909, the spoon 1908, the bowl with an everted rim embossed with 'C', 'R', 'D', and 'G' on hearts under coronets and flanked by thistles and divided by dragons, the footed embossed 'To Charles Robert Douglas Gray. From His Godmother Marion E. Hillier. Peking. Dec. 31. 1909', inscribed under 'Omar Ramsden et Alwyn Carr Me Fecerunt MCMX', 15.8cm (6.25in) diameter; the spoon, the tapered hexagonal handle with a central wrythen lobe and a 'nail' terminal, engraved 'CRDG', 14.8cm (5 5/8in) long, 317g (10.2 oz). Col. Charles Robert Douglas Gray, OBE was born on December 31 1909 in Peking, where his father, himself a colonel, was Medical Officer to the British Ambassador to China.
