Breguet the gilt movement with rectangular plates of different size; the backplate of smaller dimensions to take the large going barrel and to support the 12 inch long two-part crutch, united to the frontplate by four circular turned brass pillars fixed by blued steel screws; between the plates is supported the A-shaped polished steel frame with jewelled pallets to the very fine deadbeat escapement, re-wound every two and a half minutes via the remontoire, the enamel dial with Roman hours and arabic quarters enclosed by twin bands divided for each minute, with pierced gilt hands of an interlaced design, now contained in an early 19th century style mahogany case glazed to three sides to show the movement and pendulum; the very substantial pendulum weighing 11.84kg (26lbs) with knife edge suspension and constructed of five brass and four steel rods to a large bob with engraved regulation nut, the whole supported on a shaped open bracket screwed to the backboard and constructed to form a gimballed mount at the top, the later custom made case with elaborate cornice with dentil moulding over three long glazed panels to flame veneered base 2.11m (6ft 11in) high.
