An Earthenware Vase Meiji Period (Late 19th Century), Blue Enamel Shimazu Crest Of ovoid form with an elongated tapered neck and square mouth painted in polychrome enamels and gilt over a clear crackled glaze with four panels of chrysanthemums and phoenixes on a background of chrysanthemum heads and scrolling gilt vines, the panels bordered by a lappet band and a band of chrysanthemums and hollyhock crests on foliate sprays, the body with elaborate floral brocade and a band of key frets around the foot 10in. (26.3cm.) high
