An Edwardian Platinum, Diamond and Black Opal Brooch, containing one oval black opal measuring approximately 21.10 x 14.42 x 3.82 mm within an intricate bow motif filigree surround containing numerous old European and round single cut diamonds weighing approximately 0.75 carat total, white gold pin fittings. 4.90 dwts. Estimate $ 3,000-5,000 The brooch is in very good condition overall, all stones are present and securely set, no signs of repair, pin fittings are in good working order. Gem Characteristics (graded in setting) Opal The stone has dark grey body color (within boundaries for "black") with very strong play-of-color, predominantly red and orange in small patches and streaks spread evenly throughout interspersed with significant blue and minor green, small area of black non phenomenal to one side near edge. The reverse side has a small patch of play-of-color near the edge, the remainder is non-phenomenal. No apparent crazing. Diamonds Color: G-I Clarity: VS1-SI1, vast majority VS
