AN EMPIRE ENAMELLED GOLD SNUFF-BOX SET WITH A MINIATURE by Adrien-Jean-Maximilien Vachette (fl. 1779-1839), marked, with the Parisian post-Revolutionary unofficial standard mark for 20.5-carat gold and another, the flange engraved with retailer's name 'Gibert Successeur de Lempereur à Paris', the miniature by Anthelme-François Lagrénée (1774-1832), signed, circa 1810 Oval gold box, the cover inset with a glazed oval miniature depicting a young lady waist-length, facing right in red velvet dress with short puff-sleeves and frill-bordered white silk underdress, her curly brown hair high-piled and secured with a pearl-set gold tiara, within a narrow blue-enamelled gold frame with stylized acanthus stamped inner border, the matted gold border stamped with stylized foliage parcel-enamelled in opaque blue, the four sides and base with similarly framed panels engine-turned with a coin pattern and enamelled in translucent blue, polished gold rims, the four side pilasters stamped with blue enamelled palmettes on a matted gold ground 3 11/16 in.
