Their selection of emeralds for this necklace does full honor to this tradition. The center stone, weighing 8.13 carats, was mined in Colombia, arguably the premier source of emeralds in the world. On this necklace, Van Cleef & Arpels has reinterpreted and enriched the design from similarly styled French necklaces from the last quarter of the 18th century based on clusters where a large center stone is framed by equal-sized diamonds. The single stone separators between clusters have been replaced by florets consisting of an emerald surrounded by five diamonds. The overall effect is a more sumptuous display of fine gems while maintaining the elegance of the simple original line. Unlike its ancestor, the front section of this necklace can be detached and worn as a bracelet.
