AN IMPORTANT GEORGE II SILVER CAKE BASKET LONDON, 1739, MAKER'S MARK OF PAUL DE LAMERIE (HARE NO.5) Of shaped oval form, raised on four lion mask feet supporting openwork rocaille and scroll decoration and joined by an openwork foliate scroll and rocaille apron enclosing, on each side, the head of Ceres, the everted sides elaborately pierced and engraved with foliate scrolls and flowerheads below an applied foliate scroll, flowerhead and rocaille rim, enclosing at each end, a bearded male and female mask within radiating rocaille, the center flat-chased with a border of foliate scrolls and flowerheads within matting and enclosing an Earl's engraved armorials, the overhead swing handle with foliate swags and rocaille issuing from putto terms, later engraved under base with two crests, marked under base, engraved EH-134.1 , and with Dallas Museum of Art accession number 1987.105.1 --14 3/4in.
