Accompanied by an American Gemological Laboratories sapphire identification and origin certificate number CS 68525, dated June 24, 2015, stating Mineral Type: Natural Corundum, Variety: Sapphire, Origin: Burma (Myanmar), Enhancement: No indications of heat enhancement, Clarity Enhancement: None. 22.20 dwts. Estimate $ 18,000-22,000 The brooch measures approximately 2 1/4" x 1 2/3". The sapphire clarity is translucent due to a fairly even distribution of rutile needles (causing the asterism/star) with a small triangular area of growth and color zoning off center that is highly transparent with almost no color (not uncommon in Burmese stones). This zone also contains somewhat noticeable inclusions consisting of colorless negative crystals. The star displays readily in proper lighting or sunlight and moves well across the medium height dome of the cabochon. Some rays/legs are less distinct and/or complete than others and some waviness is apparent as the star moves (as shown above). The quality of the star would be graded as moderate to good by the gemologist.
