An Indo-Portuguese painted hardwood and metal mounted table top casket, 18th century, possibly for the European market, the top and sides painted with figures on floral ground, the rear with fragments of a crucifixion scene; the fitted front painted with birds and flowers, 19 x 21 x 31cm Condition Report: Marks, scratches and abrasions comensurate with age and use. Some old chips and splits and some old repairs some small losses. Some old fading, discoloration and wear and loss to the painted surface throughout. Some fragments of timber loss throughout including to the top edges of drawer fronts. The main 'fall' from the front of the box is lacking. One rusted hinge fitting for that panel remains and one is lacking with additional fragmentary timber loss where it would have been positioned. Please refer to all additional images. All drawer handles and both side carrying handles are present. The Chinese export lacquer box requires a surface clean. One end of the lid has split and some adjacent small losses, there is also a loss of the section of the corresponding interior 'lip' of the lower part of the box (see images) Please refer to all additional images for visual reference to condition.
