Beschreibung:

An Irish George II carved giltwood wall mirror The form of the present mirror relates to that of a pair of mirrors supplied to either Sankey Winter, Archdeacon of Killala and Dean of Kildare (d.1736) for his Dublin house or his brother, Francis Winter ( d. 1743) and by descent in the Winter family at Agher House, Co. Meath until the house was demolished in 1947. The pair of mirrors are illustrated in The Knight of Glin and James Peill, Irish Furniture, 2007, pl.217. It is interesting to note that the present lot is ornamented with the heraldic crest of a Knight`s helmet and cornocopiae and the pair of mirrors are both ornamented with an heraldic crest and cornocopiae of very similar design, suggesting that they could well be by the same maker. 116cm. high, 69cm. wide; 3ft. 9¾ in., 2ft. 3¼ in.
