AN ITALIAN ROSEWOOD AND ORMOLU MOUNTED QUARTER STRIKING TABLE CLOCK WITH ALARM Unsigned; Possibly Italian, Mid 18th Century The case with out-set angles on ormolu foliate and shell-cast feet, the pilasters applied with trailing ormolu mounts, gilt-metal breakarch frames to the glazed sides, foliate gilt-metal sound-frets to the friezes beneath the concave-moulded top with flambeau urn finials and surmounted by a foliate-cast C-scroll handle, the dial with pewter Roman and Arabic chapter ring with pierced blue steel hands, gilt-metal alarm disc to the centre set against the hour hand spur, foliate spandrels and portrait medallion within the arch, the movement with four pillars riveted to the front plate and pinned to the backplate, large going barrel for the going train and for the quarter strike on two bells of different tone, the alarm train with its individual going barrel sounding on the larger bell; later seatboard 21¾ in. (55 cm.) high
