An Outstanding, Meiji Period, Japanese Satsuma Lidded Koro, of the highest quality, the body of globular form, raised on three stub feet with an everted rim and angular slab handles, the domed cover pierced and surmounted by a knop in the form of a Karako. The whole is profusely and very finely decorated in overglaze enamels, piped slip and gilding, with panels of Rakkan or Buddhist Acolytes, even featuring an immortal on the back of a flying goose, all on honeycomb diaper background. It is 28 cms high, in perfect condition and the interior of the cover bears the character inscription of 'Dai Nihon Satsuma Tetsuye Sei Tosen Ga'. It is a special piece and you need time and a magnifying glass to see the full extent of the intricate hand decoration.
