An outstanding Valentine album containing fine and rare cards, including a George Meek peep-show valentine with two gates, with paper lace borders, a hand written message, painted embossed flowers, a gilded and painted roundel of a flower garland with an applied Dresden waterfall opening to reveal a colour lithographed scene of two ladies before a river - circa 6½in. 17cm. high, English circa 1850 ; another similar with a netted roundel and applied Dresden hearts, opening to reveal an applied painted paper flower; a Dobbs & Co Cupid's Little Messengers , with embossed and paper lace borders, applied and painted flowers, hand written messages, a painted embossed bird, opening to reveal a hand written valentine letter - circa 1850 ; an unusual mechanical card with an elaborate gilded frame containing coloured lithographic scene of a couple and a verse changing to cupid with an arrow - circa 1850 ; a George Kershaw paper lace valentine with a coloured lithographic roundel of flowers in a vase and a hand written message; a honeycomb card with a hand painted and gilded theatre opening to reveala pair of Dresden doves; a George Meek paper lace cartouche containing a painted scene of an officer and his lover; a fine Rook honeycomb card of a painted cupid opening to reveal a man sending a valentine, Oh go gentle dove - circa 1840 ; another entitled - Forget me not ; a pair of paper gloves with a printed verse on silk, in original envelope; and other cards - approximately 57 cards See illustrations
