An unusual electric powered 6in. gauge display model of Blenkinsop's rack and pinion locomotive The Yorkshire Horse of 1813 built by F. Banks with brass bound wood lagged boiler with two vertically mounted cylinders, level test cocks, safety valves and fire door, the crosshead guides being vertically mounted bars, the connecting rods with cranks under the boiler, the shafts with gears to drive the main cog wheel and eccentric and rocking lever driven valve gear, the oak chassis with front mounted water tank and pump. The locomotive is mounted on a display track within a wood-framed glazed case with table and concealed electric drive ( requires attention; one pulley detached ) and aluminium plate engraved Model of Yorkshire Horse originally made by Daglish of Orrell to design by Blenkinsop worked in Orrell 1813-1822 Made by Mr F. Banks of Pemberton to drawings supplied by S. Kensington Museum , measurements overall -- 58 x 55in. (147.5 x 140.5cm.) ; and a piece of coal carved with a miner working at the coal face, glazed case -- 17 x 27in. (44.5 x 68.5cm.) See Back Cover (2)
