ANNIE OAKLEY No. 5 [and] WYATT EARP No. 1 * Lot of Two Comic Books Publisher: Atlas [Indicia: Current Detective Stories, Inc.] Date Published: June-November 1955 Description: Annie Oakley #5: VG+ (4.5). Moderate spine stress, minor spine roll, two short dogeared tears to right edge of front cover, sun shadow and pencilled ownership name ("Diane") to top edge of back cover. Off-white pages. Cover: Joe Maneely. Art: Ross Andru, Paul Reinman. GPAnalysis: No reported sales in any grades. Wyatt Earp #1: Fine- (5.5). Mild spine curl, light edge and corner wear to top of front cover, tiny shallow chip to back cover near spine, 1/2" tear and fine handling creases to right edge of front cover. White to off-white pages. Cover: Joe Maneely. Art: Joe Maneely, Bob Forgione. GPAnalysis: A 5.5 sold for $249 in 11/19. Pistol-packin' Annie Oakley rides the range helping the hopeless, but her feisty spirit scares off suitors, leading to loneliness; Wyatt Earp busts perps with his dual-action six-shooters; ad offers gullible young cowpokes a chance to earn a real live pony by selling salve (in a case of side-iron irony, the stories encourage readers to be straight shooters, but the ads entice them to be sap-swindling snake oil salesmen). A limited edition of ten hardcover catalogues is available, in addition to a few dozen softcovers. Fun reference, great keepsake, fully illustrated, chockablock with obscure facts, gags, bon mots. Softcovers are $40, deluxe hardcovers with dust jackets and limitation plates are $200. These books always go fast so don't delay. To order, contact ivan@pbagalleries.com. Consignments welcome for PBA's Fall 2023 Comic Book sale. Top prices for Pre-Code Horror, Golden Age, Silver Age, original art and ephemera. Find out why PBA is the new fan-fave of funnybook fiends.
