Elegant full French red crushed morocco (but unsigned), gilt-tooled, inner gilt dentelles, top edges gilt, moire endpapers, original wrappers bound in. 12 1/2 x 8 3/4 inches; text printed in two columns; fine lithographed plates (some in full color), in-text illustrations. Some scuffing particularly at joints and extremities, one or two gouges to the spine of volume one, scattered foxing . "A monumental work of scholarship in the French encyclopedic tradition. Still valuable for research, particularly in the history of French decorative arts. Encompasses all of the decorative arts.
