Jarvis, Washington, D.C., PLUS a 3" x 5.75" silver print of a Southern Plains warrior with tomahawk in hand, on original 4.25" x 5.75" grey card stock with inked inscription on reverse reading To Mrs. Wm H. Anderson from Lancisco Hill 12/23th/05, PLUS a 4.5" x 6.5" silver print showing the 25 members of Native American marching band in uniforms with their instruments, on original card stock mount with manuscript Lancisco Hill on reverse, PLUS a 6" x 8" silver print on 10" x 12" card stock with blindstamp imprint of Robt. A. Turnbull, Phoenix, Arizona showing six older Native American gentlemen with period pencil inscription on reverse reading Six Pima head men from Lehi Arizona and other places and first names of each and identifying Lancisco Hill as seated right. First letter dated April 24, 1908, from Lancisco Hill to Mrs. Frances W. Anderson, Los Angeles, folded four page asking her to purchase Baritone springs (sic; strings) for him while in L.A., PLUS the second letter addressed to the same and dated May 2, 1908, a folded three page letter thanking her for a song she sent him, a beautiful thing and talking of the horses and turkeys on her ranch and talks of his progress at the Arizona School of Music. It appears that Lancisco works for Mrs. Anderson at her estate in Phoenix. The last letter is dated Phoenix, July 24, 1911, to Mrs. E.G. Gillette, Lowell, Mass. from Lancisco Hill and has three folded letter sheets with six pages of manuscript text. This letter talks of the Chief sending him as representative of the tribe to Washington to meet with congress. He asks her for an advance to pay for his cornet and assures her all is well at her place, including her cats. Mrs. Gillette may in fact be the same person as Mrs. Anderson, possibly just remarried, or alternatively another Phoenix lady he works for. Lancisco Hill was likely chosen to represent the tribe in Washington for his ability to read and write. Condition: 1st light soil and chips on stock, VG-; 2nd-4th VG; 5th minor damp stains on card stock, else VG. The letters all have normal folds, else VG.
