Venezia, Antonio Zatta 1772-1773 4 Vols in small folio; Contemporary quarter calf binding; gilt ornaments and green calf label with gilt title on backs; sprinkled edges; I: Frontispiece, Titlepage, pp. 20 halftitle non included, LX, 150 nn.; II: Titlepage, pp. 214 nn.; III: Titlepage., pp. 206 nn.; IV: Titlepage., pp. 268 nn.; 4 Titlepage engraved on copper within elaborated ornamental frames; on I Vol. allegorical frontispiece drawned and engraved by P.A. Novelli, anauthor?s portrait, the house, the Mausoleum, inkwell, the chair owned by the poet and a calligraphy in fac-simile, all of them engraved on plates out text; in one of the 46 chapters of the poem and in the additional five, there is a topic with fine ornamental frames engraved on copper and a plate out text. A total of 51 on full page. Several engraved headpieces, illustrated initial letters and endpieces. The complete work presents 4 titlepages and 58 plates engraved on copper. Very nice specimen with wide margins.
Wonderful edition of Antonio Zatta's typographic masterpiece. Illustrated work with plates engraved on copper by some of the most important 18th century Venetian engravers, Leonardis, Baratti, Zuliani and others, based on original drawings by Novelli, who personally carves the splendid allegorical frontispiece. Estimated edition, with the correct text from the numerous errors present in previous editions and with a vast and useful apparatus, indexes of names and locations at the end of the fourth volume.
