Attributed to James Sanford Ellsworth (American, 1802/03- 1874) A Pair of Portraits of Two Children. Unsigned. Watercolor on paper, c. 1840-45, depicting the children in profile seated on fanciful green upholstered chairs with yellow painted frames, the boy holds a toy and the girl holds book, their heads and chairs surrounded by shaded gray cloud-like formations, sight size 3 x 1 7/8 in. framed together in a grain painted wooden frame. Condition: Minor toning, old light mat stains. Provenance: Ex collection of George Schoellkopf, New York City. Literature: These portraits are illustrated in American Country: FOLK ART.
