AUSTRALIA IN ENGLAND 1938, OFFICIAL TEAM PORTRAIT, mount printed with heading 1938 Australian Cricket Team in Great Britain and printed names below, SIGNED IN INK ON THE MOUNT BY THE TEAM, comprising Bradman, McCabe, O'Reilly, Fingleton, Fleetwood-Smith, Barnes, Brown, McCormick, White, Ward, Waite, Barnett, Chipperfield, Badcock, Hassett, Walker and W.H.Jeanes (manager), 30 x 38 cm image, mount with wide margins 45 x 55 cm (some flecking to buff paper strip mount) ERN MCCORMICK'S ORIGINAL COPY, his name in pencil on reverse and his neat signed presention inscription in corner of image 'To Tom, my pal...1939'. McCormick, who bowled fast off the longest run-up, 31 paces, by an Australian pace bowler, took 34 wicket on this tour for an average of 33.41. He joined the RAAF in 1939'. Australia Struggled to contain the 22-year old Len Hutton at the Oval when the future England Captain scored his record 364 runs. England's score in this Test, 903 for 7, was also a record. It was O'Reilly's last English tour and he missed his usual bowling partner, Clarrie Grimmett, who had been controversially dropped for Frank Ward However, Australia retained the Ashes. This was the last tour before the war, the next tour, by Bradman's Invincibles, was 10 years away
