AUTOGRAPH COLLECTION -- GERMAN ARTISTS, 19th Century. A collection of letters, documents and drawings by artists, including: Johanna SCHOPENHAUER (1766-1838). Autograph letter signed to an unidentified recipient, Weimar, 4 April 1823, complaining of her ill health ('Meine Gesundheit ist immer sehr schwach, meine linke Seite noch immer zum Theil gelähmt'), one page, 8vo , with a related manuscript; Adolph von MENZEL (1815-1905). Corrected proof engraving of a device, apparently for an engraver or artist, with autograph instructions to follow his corrections with close attention, and requesting that the borders be 'glatt und scharf', one leaf, 145 x 220mm , tipped into a bifolium; with an autograph letter signed to Professor du Bois-Reymond, B[erlin], 14 November 1879, 1½ pages, 8vo ; Sophus JACOBSEN (1833-1912). Album of drawings, the majority pencil, a few heightened in wash, comprising views of Venice, Nideggen (16) and other locations, 24 drawings in total, a few loose, 221 x 169mm - 307 x 463mm, boards; and letters or drawings by Johann Gottfried SCHADOW (to Friedrich Kugler, 30 March 1834), Andreas ACHENBACH (five letters to Gustav Lange Milan, Florence and Rome, 1843-4, with two others), Emanuel LEUTZE (autograph note), Johann Peter HASENCLEVER (two letters, 1845 and 1849, one about a package intended for the sculptor Gustav Blaeser , Theodor HILDEBRANDT (letter, 1868, and drawing, depicting a child observing pigs feeding), Johann Heinrich Voss (drawing of two sheep's heads, annotated with an observation by Tischbein), Johann Baptist Sonderland (letter, 1890, and sketches on 2 leaves), Wilhelm Camphausen (5 letters and manuscripts, and a cut signature), Albert Flamm (two notes), C.F. Deiker (drawing of a boar at bay, 105 x 150mm), J.W. Preyer (letter, 1874, sketchleaf, and portrait photograph), Albert Baur and seven others, altogether approximately 34 letters and documents and 30 drawings.
