Title: Autograph Letter Signed - 1912 Miner’s letter Ruby, Alaska Author: [McCrary?], H.W. Place: Ruby, Alaska Publisher: Date: Nov. 5, 1912 Description: 3 pp. To “friend Joe”: “…oweing two hundred fifty dollars…had to work on the Gov. Road to pay up. I am going out two Quarts Creek in a few days to prospect and represent our ground. I expect to put the winter in and then and any of the ground that I staked you in on will be represented free of charge to you…There will be twenty or more outfits on Quarts this winter. If you want me to look after your other interests and keep you posted let me know…Garvin and I will not be together this winter as I thot we would, I guess he didn’t like the idea of being with a broke partner…about that Tip Creek ground…I might get a chance to plough it for a couple of hundred dollars if there is any excitement on Tip during the winter… I am nearly broke and I will have to have grub before I can do much work…About that tin, I will pay you for it just as soon as I get the money. This camp is going to be tighter than last winter. There will be no credit at all given and all us fellows that was in here last winter and this summer are broke flat….” Nearly ten years after the start of the Klondike Gold Rush, gold was discovered on Ruby creek, by the Yukon River, which brought a new wave of prospectors to the area. In 1910, word leaked out about another discovery of gold, some 30 miles south of Ruby; new discoveries were then reported almost daily, and Ruby became the supply center for mines in the area. Lot Amendments Condition: Creases from folding; very good. Item number: 241876
