AUTRY, Gene (1907-1998). Back in the Saddle Again , co-authored by Mickey Herskowitz. New York: Doubleday & Co., 1978.
AUTRY, Gene (1907-1998). Back in the Saddle Again , co-authored by Mickey Herskowitz. New York: Doubleday & Co., 1978. 8 o . 47 illustrations. Brown cloth, spine stamped in gilt; pictorial dust jacket. Provenance : FRANK SINATRA (1915-1998) (presentation inscription from the author on the front flyleaf). FIRST EDITION, PRESENTATION COPY, inscribed and signed on the front flyleaf: "To my friend 'Frank Sinatria' a guy whom I have admired so many years. Frank this is the story of my life, well not all of it. But I hope you like it. With warm regards always Frank, Gene Autry 10-20-78." SINATRA'S COPY OF THE SINGING COWBOY'S MEMOIRS. Autry writes that he first heard Sinatra with the Tommy Dorsey band, in Minneapolis in 1940. "He'll never be a Crosby," he told a friend. But their mutual admiration grew over the years as both achieved great success. Sinatra "always called me Gino ," Autry remembers, which probably explains the playful, heightened "Italianization" of Sinatra's name in the inscription.
