Josef Albers (1888-1976) was one of the pioneers of 20th-century modernism. He was an extraordinary writer, painter, colour theorist and teacher at Black Mountain College and Yale. When 'Interaction of Color' was published in 1963, it created much controversy around its proposition of how people perceive, understand and interact with colour.
