He was acquainted with the artists Jackson Pollock Roberto Matta Josef Albers Jean Arp and Marcel Duchamp He taught at Black Mountain College in North Carolina, then at Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center, and Chouinard Art Institute, Los Angeles.
