Beschreibung:

AVIATION] Signed photograph depicting female aviation pioneer Blanche Stuart Scott seated in her plane , the original image circa 1910, this a later 8 x 10 copy print inscribed in ink "First hop - Aug 8/1910/First solo in the air Sept 2/1910/Blanche Stuart Scott". Minor handling creases. Blanche Stuart Scott first made headlines in 1910 as one of the first women to drive a car cross country and later that year met Glenn Curtiss, likely the man standing at left in this image, who took her on as his only female aviation student. She was flying publicly by the end of that year and is considered the first professional female pilot. Signed items from the aviatrix are scarce and we find few examples. This image sold as part of the M. Wesley Marans Collection, Christie's East, 17 April 1996. C
