Although this work was entered in the Stationers' register in 1633, no editon is recorded before the present 'second edition' of 1653. The pastoral dialogues between Dicus, Tityrus, and other shepherds on the pleasures and pitfalls of marriage are spirited and amusing. However, as Aylett marrried three times, there is no doubting on which side he stands, the poem forming a eulogy on his second wife, Judith Gaell, who had died in 1623. This copy has an extra leaf at the end, not called for by ESTC, containing the poem 'A Christmas-Carol. 1645'. RARE. ESTC records 8 copies, only 2 in the British Isles. Hazlitt 5; Lowndes I, 89; Wing A-4285; not in Grolier Wither to Prior .
