Title printed within border with engraved vignette, 102 engraved plates. (3 plates printed on different paper stock.) Contemporary calf-backed boards (front joint split). Provenance : acquired from Libreria Antiquaria Mediolanum, 1999. FIRST EDITION. A fine collection of neoclassical stage designs, including inventive reconstructions of Rome, Egyptian scenes, prisons, fanciful landscapes and interiors and a lavish American cabin. Basioli, an architect, designer, and instructor of architecture at l'Accademia Clementina di Bologna, worked at Trieste, St. Petersburg, and Milan as a set designer and was the author of several works dedicated to the study of decoration and the taste of his time.
