The vein of unaffected philosophy, practical wisdom, & characters... however skilfully delineated, must, from our previous acquaintance with them, cease to engage our attentions, & excite our sympathies...", Disraeli singles out for comment the interview with Sir William Flowerdale as being especially interesting to him, "as a young political aspirant", folds, browned; and another an AL.s.signed "D" complaing of influenza, 1833, v.s., v.d. (2). *** Disraeli plays critic to his first literary mentor. The present letter, written only eleven days before the publication of his own first novel, Vivian Grey, is based on Ward's first novel, Tremaine, or the Man of Refinement, 1825.
