In-folio (mm 303x195). Pagine [24], 112 con 1 ritratto ripiegato e XL carte di tavole pi˜ù volte ripiegate finemente incise in rame. Frontespizio in rosso e nero. Ottimo esemplare. Legatura coeva in pergamena su cartone, titoli manoscritti al dorso. Rara edizione originale, con le aggiunte e i commenti di Johann Heinrich Lochner e 16 tavole non presenti nell’edizione del 1616, di questo catalogo descrittivo del famoso gabinetto di curiosità di Basilius Besler. La sua Wunderkammer, dedicata ai tre regni della natura e alla cui formazione contribu˜ì anche il nipote Michael Rupert, ˜è considerata uno dei primi musei privati tedeschi. “This beautifully illustrated work, describes various objects of natural history contained in the collection started by Basilius Besler and continued by his nephew, Michael Rupert Besler. A beautiful portrait of Johann Henrich Lochner (16951715) is used as a frontispiece. The text then presents descriptions of the objects pictured on the accompaning plates. These illustrate fruits, roots & berries, birds, lizards, salemanders, aligators, snakes, sharks, fishes, turtles, octopus, crabs, shells, starfish, sponges, corals, fossil shells, stones, fossil plants and fossil shark teeth. The 24 plates originally published in Michael Rupert Besler’s Gazophylacium Rerum Naturalium (Nuremberg, 1642) are republished in this work, together with 16 additional” (Wilson, The Mineralogical Record, 205).
