Pancrace Bessa war ein Redouté-Schüler und unterrichtete die Herzogin von Berry. - Die Tafeln meist etwas gebräunt und fleckig. Extremely rare, bibliographically unrecorded second issue. Nissen calls for 389 plates for the first edition, whereas the present edition asks for 390 plates as per title text. "Bessa was Redouté's most distinguished pupil" (de Belder 108). With very attractive plates showing flowers and plants from all parts of the world. - Some browning and staining, contemporary half-calf gilt, some wear.
