Half-title printed in red and black, engraved title. (Lacks final 12 pages of appendix, a few tears touch text without loss, most repaired.) Early 18th-century red morocco, covers with elaborate gilt border of small scroll and floral tools incorporating a flower and bishop's mitre in corners, spine gilt in compartments (small wormholes at head and foot, slightly discoloured), g.e. Provenance : red stamp with cardinal's arms on half-title; Prince Eugene of Savoy (1663-1736, duplicate stamp of the Palace library in Vienna on verso of half-title); John, 4th Marquess of Bute bookplate. First issue of the Clementine Bible, revised from the Sixtine version by Pope Clement VIII, who corrected the errors of the earlier text. Darlow & Moule 6184; Adams B1101.
